Artist Statement

I have been drawn to the making of art all of my remembered life. I feel most in my element in the studio, my thoughts and hands working together in the creation of my art.

The evocative power of compositions created from abstract or nonobjective shapes drives the development of my art.  My work is constructed from my own hand dyed fabric and is created in a way that utilizes both preparatory sketches and/or improvisational techniques. I refer to my pieces as interior landscapes.  These landscapes are often filled with figures, structures and vistas which have a story to tell but which are very open to interpretation.

I became interested in quilts about 8 years ago while working as a designer with a textile company.  I was given the assignment of developing a group of designs based on traditional quilts.  I decided to make a traditional quilt and so my journey began.  While I still use some traditional techniques, my approach is studio based and the desire is to transcend the tradition of blocks and work totally freeform.
